A composer who for technical reasons doesn't get his name in the programme, but should, is Patrick Johnson, who this year won the Dinah Wolfe Memorial Prize for composition with his piece The Great Romantic Copout for solo cello, to be performed by William Conway from the Hebrides Ensemble on Friday Lunchtime. (The only concert in Plug which is not free, incidentally.)
I have to declare an interest here; I was Paddy's composition teacher this year. I really enjoyed working with him and I think this is a great piece, but I would say that, wouldn't I? Paddy's main instrument is cello, and you'll catch him playing in a bunch of the pieces in Plug.
